Description
- The U.S. Mission in Maputo/Mozambique is seeking eligible and qualified applicants for the position of Public Health Specialist (Strategic Information Program Specialist)
Duties
- The incumbent serves as a member of the Division of Data Analytics within the CDC Mozambique
Division of Global HIV/AIDS and TB (DGHT) office. The position is based in the Epidemiology Branch and
is supervised by the Epidemiology Branch Chief. The incumbent provides support to CDC Mozambique
physicians, epidemiologists, program specialists and other professional staff collaborating on CDC-
supported programs, surveillance activities, surveys and operational research projects funded through
the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR)
- Support includes participation in the development of and/or review of operational research studies, the application of appropriate statistical
methods to the analysis of program and research project data, the statistical investigation of issues
related to research projects, the implementation of statistical software applications to address
epidemiological and surveillance activities for HIV/AIDS and related diseases, and the preparation of
scientific products for dissemination of results
- The incumbent provides epidemiological and statistical
expertise, and data analysis support for program, surveillance and operational research projects
conducted by CDC Mozambique and implementing partners. The incumbent shapes strategic
information policies and objectives, and the incumbent will be responsible for building overall capacity
of CDC partners, including the Ministry of Health (MISAU) and the National Institute of Health (INS), by
providing technical assistance to these partners in the monitoring, evaluation, and epidemiological
analysis of HIV/AIDS programs
- This position will also advise the MISAU, INS, and partners on program
monitoring and evaluation implementation, documentation of results, and translation of data into
meaningful policy and program improvement. The incumbent plays a key project management role for
cooperative agreements, contractors, consultants and partners involved in HIV/AIDS surveillance and
strategic information activities
