- The Service Learning Coordinator (SLC) provides leadership in developing and maintaining Service Learning Program at AISM, involving all students K-12
- The SLC has a crucial role in the pursuit of AISM’s mission and founding values by ensuring community partnerships which are sustainable and mutually beneficial
Duties
- General Responsibilities
- Build and pursue a Vision for the Service Learning Program
- Manage the Service Learning Program for both school and partners to ensure learning and benefits for all involved
- Explore and establish relevant service learning opportunities for students, forming sustainable partnerships with community-based or other community organizations
- Oversee all aspects of the school’s service learning requirements as per determined by certification agencies to which the school is subject. This includes tracking individual student activity, counseling students for quality service learning opportunities and coordinating all communication with students, parents, partners and staff
- Manage the program budget and donations and produce financial reports as per requested
- Oversee logistical, safety and security aspects of service learning activities, in and off campus
- Serve as a community liaison for the school in a community-school partnership with related subjects
- Coordinate all aspects of public relations on behalf of the Service Learning Program, including contacting media about service projects and developing informative material for the school community
- Provide resources, inspiration and guidance for members of the faculty involved in the Service Learning Program, including collaboration to enhance service learning connections in the classroom
- Recruit, train and supervise staff working in the department, including interns, volunteers, etc
- Report a regular basis to the school leadership, namely the school director and the primary and secondary school principals
- Attend and actively contribute to administrative team meetings.
Teaching Responsibilities
- Communicate and liaise with students, faculty and other staff, in and outside the classroom, to ensure the service learning experience is as meaningful
- Develop service learning activities for students and the partners to ensure learning and benefits for all involved
- Take an active role in teaching the values of the program, behavioral management and class management during service learning activities
- Attend and actively participate in staff meetings when needed
- Chaperone and/or coordinate students or groups of students in service learning trips and activities
- Maintain up-to-date records of assessment, attendance, planning, reports, conferences, reflections and communications with parents and students
- Develop interdisciplinary units of teaching/learning collaboratively with teachers
- Co-teach interdisciplinary units relating to service learning
- Develop a service-learning-related curriculum to be taught during advisory sessions
- Act as a support resource for new students and new staff members
- Identify service-learning connections with class material from teachers and other resources in school
- Nurture a holistic approach to human development in students and staff.
Requisites
- Mozambican citizen
- BA degree (Masters preferable)
- Full command of both English and Portuguese language – spoken and written (command of Changane is a plus)
- Experience in social development area, such as previous work in NGO’s or similar
- Preferably, experience within education or work with adolescents
- Ability to work flexible hours (e.g., evenings, weekends, etc.)
- Ability to work well under pressure
- Ability to connect to diverse populations and a multicultural environment
- Valid driver’s license
