Ships Agency Operations Manager

Grindrod is recruiting a Ships Agency Operations Manager, to be based in Maputo.

Duties
  • Oversee the day to day Ships Agency activities, including monitoring of communications, estimate disbursement accounts, vessel planning with operators, etc
  • Oversee bulk team ensuring accurate and timeous reporting
  • Liaise closely with port authorities at all levels, including daily port visits
  • Liaise daily with clients with updates on cargo movements and any other info
  • Liaise closely with CF Division as well as with Border Office
  • Maintain report with forecast volumes and revenue for preparation of annual budgeting
  • Developing and growing new revenue streams
  • Developing and implementing strategies to acquire new business and maintain existing business
  • Reviewing of operational processes, procedures and standards and introducing efficiencies
  • Maintain a high level of customer satisfaction that always meets, if not exceeds, expectation
  • Closely managing and controlling debtors
  • Reporting monthly on Ships Agency activities to National Ops Manager
  • Providing back up to the National Ops Manager
  • Building and maintaining strong and sustainable customer relationships to ensure exposure and increased sales
  • Overseeing, maintaining and improving processing systems and ensuring quality compliance in ISO 9001
  • Identify staff, system and procedure requirements and implement. Emphasis on staff competencies and development so as to improve standards of efficiency and service
  • Motivating and coaching staff, encouraging team building and increasing staff morale
Requisites
Qualification
  • Related tertiary qualification preferred (Alternatively, relevant industry-related training)
Experience
  • Minimum of 5 years practical experience in the ships agency industry
  • 2 years managerial experience at a senior level including personnel and business management, planning and financial oversight
  • Experience in non-liner agency and bulk cargo operations and logistics
  • Ideally have a background and experience in quality management processes
Required skills
  • Strong management and organisational skills with ability to lead staff/teams
  • Strong business acumen and leadership skills
  • Ability to meet reporting deadlines and deal effectively with customer demands
  • Strong overall personnel management and delegation skills
  • Effective industry and quality compliance knowledge
  • Strong problem solving ability and identification of departmental needs and potential threats
  • Excellent and effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Good understanding of accounts in order to manage debtors / creditors
  • Computer literacy – MS Word, advanced MS Excel
  • Valid driver’s licence essential
  • Ability to read / speak Portuguese will be an advantage
