US Embassy is recruiting a Supervisory Chef, to be based in Maputo.
Duties
- Plan and prepare meals for the Ambassador, family, and guests, propose and execute menus for official functions as directed and assist, as necessary, in serving food. Employee will keep records of menus for official functions, and regularly add new recipes to the Official Residence files
- Plan and coordinate representational events (working closely with the Ambassador and Protocol Assistant in relation to scheduling and guest lists) to include staffing, furniture requirements, menu preparation, table/seating arrangements, ordering and purchasing any needed items, supervising deliveries, supervising caterers or outside contractors and/or laborers, and orchestration of event. Place food and drink orders for all events
- Manage residence expenses. Make purchases of all necessary ingredients, such as vegetables and meats at the local market. Maintain organized records of expenses for official functions
- Clean the kitchen area and pantry and maintain all kitchen appliances, equipment, dishes, pots and pans spotless clean and keep the kitchen in good order at all times. Ensure proper food storage handling and sanitation procedures; compliance with health and safety standards; cleanliness; presentation
- In coordination with the Ambassador’s house manager, manage costs and prepare representational vouchers documenting official events in coordination with the Financial Management Office (FMO) and adhering to government regulations and budget
- Other duties as requested by the Ambassador
Requisites
- Five or more years of experience as a chef, planning and executing large events and receptions, delivering a wide variety of multicultural culinary options
- Completion of secondary education
- Good Knowledge of Portuguese or English (Level III) is required
- Must be able to obtain and maintain the required level of US government security clearance to access Ambassador’s residence and other Embassy residences/buildings
