- The U.S. Mission in Maputo/Mozambique is seeking eligible and qualified applicants for the position of Surveillance Specialist
Duties
- The Surveillance Specialist (Public Health Specialist) is a position concentrating on HIV/AIDS survey and disease surveillance portfolio and corresponding emergency response activities. The job holder coordinates and manages assigned President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) and other public health program-funded survey and disease surveillance activities in Mozambique
- These include the design of routine disease surveillance systems with the Ministry of Health (MISAU) and the National Institute of Health (INS), and the conduct of large, complex surveys designed to measure HIV prevalence and other indicators of importance to evaluating the impact of HIV control and other disease programs
- Disease surveillance systems to be strengthened or developed may include those related to HIV/AIDS, STI, and mortality reporting. Surveys to be coordinated may include Integrated Bio-Behavioral Surveys (IBSS), AIDS Indicator Surveys (AIS), Demographic and Health Surveys (DHS), mortality surveys, and Antenatal Care (ANC) sentinel surveillance surveys
- Partners to which the incumbent will provide technical or managerial oversight include the MISAU, national universities, International NGOs, and private sector partners. The position reports directly to the CDC Mozambique Emergency Response Surveillance Team Lead
- The incumbent will participate in the PEPFAR Mozambique Strategic Information (SI) Technical Working Group (TWG) to ensure that surveillance systems are meeting the needs of the national HIV/AIDS Program in Mozambique and that PEPFAR Mozambique program priorities are developed
